Update Part one
After realizing that i was running out of the pavers and considering how long they took to make i decided to just paint the rest of the pavers in the town.
Detail of the painted pavers.
Halfway there. I roughly drew the design around the fountain before going in with the paint.
Wow that took a long time though not as long as it was to place down the individual pavers.
I'm still not happy about the water fountain maybe its the colour or the water itself..
I used some orange paint to mimic the rectangular pavers and this helps provide a break in the grey-white ones, creating a concentric design.
I had some old scourers left over from last year some i took a couple of these and stapled the bottoms together and attached to the edge of the set. Running out of staples i used some wire to thread the two sides together just holding it log enough for the glue to dry.
Close up of the scourers. Extra pieces were used to fill in gaps and provide interest.
The water. well like i mentioned before i'm not very satisfied with the result of this water effect. I painted the fountain base and poured in a PVA glue. This is the second layer of glue. While the glue is lightly wet but firming up i used a paintbrush to dribble some blue swirls into the PVA, hoping that this would dry like layers of water with swirls.
I felt that the hedge by itself wasnt enough and so i added a small section of fence to it.
The base where the hedge touched the set had already been undercoated with some layers of green and so PVA was applied to this followed by modelling flock.
Part two
The painted steps with the first couple of coats.
House work.
The Bakery
Started with the bright blue windows, and just went from there. It is quite easy to tell what colours work when you have done several pieces beforehand.
Probably my favourite part of this piece the little hanging food sign.
I removed the walls so i could start making some more room for the pavers.
I dirty brushed the hedge with black, dark green and then two shades of lighter green to bring out some detail in the hedge.
Part three
Laying out the roof sections to see where they would be best. I will start working on these later tonight.
An almost complete view of the courtyard....(above) and an incomplete alley(below). It takes a long time.
Sigh.
I will have to use some tape to block out any gaps when i have all my lights set up as they will be seeking any gap to shine through.
At the end of the ally i have decided to paint a matte painting of the rest of the alley going up to Gallows hill.
I'm quite pleased at how the work is finally coming together.
I really like this shot which shows the many hand painted pavers. When the roof is properly on this will look even better.
I pulled out the old water from the fountain, as this was just PVA it came out easily. I repainted it black and then after it had dried, repainted the water. My result with the PVA was less than ideal so i dug down into my collection of materials and found some realistic water. It takes around 24 hours roughly to dry. Modelers use this stuff in their railway train models and the like.
I came back to this round 3 hours later and used a skewer to peck some small bubbly bits into the base bowl where the water will be hitting it this will hopefully give the effect of running water.
After another 2 hours i came back again to add some small bits of white frothiness to the fountain.
