Update for Consumed project: Castle Eith

Update for Consumed project: Castle Eith

Castle Eith perches on a dark rock face which is slowly eroding into the sea. Part of the castle has already fallen into the sea.  It is the home to the Royal house Nevim Eithrainn; of Southern Bremmalas.

Here is a carved version of what the castle looks like. Hand carved from plaster. At the moment I've kept all the buildings simplified to make it easier to carve.

Overview of the training arena, looking towards the church, clergy buildings as well as the  commander barracks.
Overview, looking South over the front gates of the castle.

The 'fingerpointing' shape on the left is where the great hall, library and throne room are situated. I will be building this up with some more plaster before carving. The model was getting pretty thin already so instead of carving down more to fit it in i will build up and then trim back.

 The model so far.
Above: Showing the 'secret' entrance into the citadel. The Rock wall to the right is closest to the sea and is slowly slipping away into it.

Below: Just doing some very quick box placements based on my concepts before fleshing them out. this helps me get the size right and helps me to see if my concept would work.

Above: Quick concept for Castle Eith. the pic on far right was my original sketch but i found i was trying to hard giving them too much and that didn't work within the story, so i cut it down, made the castle smaller and now it works much better.

Consumed update people of the realms

Consumed update people of the realms

Aidan boar hunt small concept design.

Quick concept showing size of small boar and size of boar spear compared to character.

I still might do some more tweaks to aidans leather vest. add in some more details etc. I also need to decide on colors for the character. Little bit unsure how I want to display his dual swords, on his back, to the side or even both on one. But for now fairly happy with the character.

Hardware rendered version below: think i need to pump those lights a bit still a bit dark.

I still need to work on some of the armour and work out his color scheme. Will need to create some more armour styles for this race.

Pinnacles Project: Part 7

Pinnacles Project: Part 7

Update on progress.
Its taking a while as each layer has to dry and because its been so cold it taking a lot longer. The sky needs redoing, well the clouds anyway and the hills need lightening up and the rocky ground needs darkening up.

The layers are dark washes of colour, greens, browns and greys mixed with water.

Adding in details of tree branches in midground.

Second layer of small pebbles and rocks. there will also be small smatterings of sand and green grasses as well as trees and branches on the sides of the work.

yellows added into green to distinguish mid ground and background greens.

 Small cairn, artists discretion.

Pinnacles Project Part 5

Pinnacles Project part 5

Finally finished carving the groves into the rocky hills and added a layer of glue to the whole piece to help seal the work and give an easier painting surface while still allowing for the texture to show through.
Covered in all the gaps between the layers of floral foam.

Really pushed the foreground by cutting into the polystyrene to enhance the feel of going into the painting.

Pinnacles project: Part4

Pinnacles project: Part4

Getting the base ready.Just used white polystyrene on a black coreboard base.

added more white into the bottom of the sky lightning it up to give it more depth.

Added some clouds, still not enirely happy with these but i think I'll come back to it later. Still look flat.

I used some textured paint to give a very rocky texture to the background hills, this will also be applied to the foreground hills to provide a sense of unity and coherence to the piece.

Added in some darker tones to clouds will go over these later.

New workstation! Got a cheap Goldwell hair-dye station from a second hand place in Carterton and fitted it with some lights and a mirror.

I used floral foam as the white polystyrene is harder to sculpt.

After laying these out on the board i roughly cut the shape with a craftknife.

Below: Showing progression of carving the groves into the floral foam. This will all be painted afterwards which will help cover up any gaps.

With the last 2 images I am trying to show the depth of the work, this will be easier to see once it is all painted up.
