Week3 Poncho

Week3

Poncho

Today we experimented with Theseus, a male mannequin model that has been pre-rigged.  we created a plane like we did last week and set this to collide with Theseus.  To make this appear more realistic we made the plane into a poncho and played with manually altering the material attributes of it.

Figure1: Theseus in poncho
We created the plane and placed it up to his neck, made a hole for the head and added extra edge loops for more geometry around his neck so the poncho would sit better.

Figure2: Draping cloth
Figure2 shows a progression of the cloth falling down and colliding with Theseus. This was quite a hard simulation to get correct as we were manually altering the characteristics of the poncho.  I found that as I altered the poncho Theseus's body started to poke through in small amounts, a finger here, a bit of flesh there.

Figure3: Adding a jump

If I thought just manipulating a cloth simulation to fall down was hard enough, well so we had to do a jump with the poncho.  After starting the sequence from when the poncho was hardly moving from the previous simulation we keyed in moves that we wanted to employ in our timeline. We added a bend down, a jump up, a free fall, a bend down for impact and straighten. (see figure3). Just like we would do in real life.  My simulation went quite well, as my poncho didn't fall off into the air as Theseus jumped.  I think this was partly because my weight was very heavy and the stickiness of the poncho was up.  It also could have been because the jump that I simulated was very small, a bigger jump may prove different results.
