Week1-2
Cloth Basics
This is my first time animating in Maya so I expect a few mistakes and mishaps. First of all we animated a cloth dropping onto some basic objects. We used the presets for the materials.

| Figure1: Chain mail & Silk |
Figure 1 shows a quick progression of screen grabs showing the simulation of two objects with two different materials. Here we have a chain mail ball and a silk plane. Due to the nature of these objects they each have different mass so fall at different times.
 |
| Figure2: Honey & Burlap |
Figure 2 shows another example of changing the properties of the materials on the objects. Here honey is applied to the plane and burlap is applied to the ball. I had quite a lot of fun experimenting and mixing the materials together.
 |
| Figure3: Wind & weight |
In Figure 3 I played around with wind speed and weight. In 3b the wind was too strong and moved the plane far to fast causing the ball to drop without hitting it. In 3d and e the ball hit the plane with such force causing it to dent before slowly moving away. This effect was achieved from slowing the wind and changing the material attributes of the plane.
 |
| Figure4: Cloth simulation |
In figure 4 I experimented with pinning two of the planes with point constraints to cause the plane to sag like a flag. When the ball dropped it caused the plane to sag and roll under its wait. I exaggerated the bounce in the constraints to add a more realistic feel to the flag.
