Character development

My first idea was a knight who was chasing his own shadow that was in the shape of a dragon but after a while i felt that i couldn't portray this story quite how i wanted and found him harder to relate too.

Figure4: shapes
I went back to basics and played with basic shapes to create a character. After finding the right combination of shapes i made these into silhouettes.

Figure5: silhouettes

Figure6: more silhouettes
I added some basic grey tones to define the character, here are some that are from my personal collection. these silhouettes are based of characters in my games such as Assassins Creed, Ghost recon, Mount and Blade.

Figure9: more silhouettes

I did do a lot of silhouettes as these help me working out kinks in my brain, and in my ideas for my character.

Figure10: characters in story
In figure 10 i did a few sketches of the main characters in my story Jack Wilson, The teacher (based on Ruth Myers) and the Medusa head.

Figure11:  a silly robot idea

Figure12: scale test

Scale played a big part in the design and influenced my character concept. I ultimately chose a "3 head high" figure as i felt that this lined with the personality that i wanted him to portray.

Figure13: clothes test
In figure13 i played around with placing my character into different outfits thus changing his personality and role, while still maintaining his core shape and essence.

Figure14: run jack run

In figure 14 i was playing around without a mouse and giving myself a time limit of 5 min to create a scene in which my character could be placed.
